Microfine turning surface quality
When the cutting thickness is very small, the roughness rises as the feed decreases. This is due to the existence of a smaller cutting thickness and in the machining process to produce unstable cutting and plowing phenomenon, thereby increasing the surface roughness. Since the surface roughness in conventional cutting is mainly affected by the residual area, which decreases as the feed decreases, this determines the existence of a better feed in microfabrication, which is determined by the smaller cutting thickness. Micro orthogonal cutting (carried out with a blunt tool) was studied by means of a high magnification video equipment and stable chip-accumulation tumor formation was observed while machining shell brass, but no similar phenomenon was observed while machining zinc.
